my first fire

A wonderful success. No cracks. No explosions. A healthy bake.

In response to shrieks of pain coming from my profesor as he took pots from the kiln and scurried to placed them on the cooling racks (or nearby stools), I enquired as to wether it was a little soon to unpack or not… He assured me that, a German, a Dutch or an English potter would never allow such a thing — but a Spaniard? Eeeeyy well, he or she shall do whatever it is that they want. So we unpacked the kiln at a toasty 191ºc.

As it was a bisque/biscuit/first fire we did not have to worry about glazes cracking, nor are our pieces so fine and delicate that they risk suffering the ever so shocking effects of thermal shock.

Perhaps tomorrow we shall be decorating…..hmmmm. Let’s see what the new week brings!

Only a Spaniard

So I am told only a Spaniard would unpack a kiln at 191 degrees!
